LookLeftLookTwice.org is a web site dedicated to the memory of Joshua Cook, who died in an accident on July 1st, 2010.

On the morning of July 1, Josh was on his way in to work in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just like any other day for him, or you and I. He was riding his motorcycle on a typical primary surface road, just like the ones that you and I take to work everyday. A woman, who had just passed through a McDonald’s drive-thru, exited the driveway directly into his path. Josh was killed instantly.

Who knows why the driver didn’t see him? We’ve allowed so many distractions to creep into our daily driving. But if you boil it all down, the single truth to this story is that the driver failed to yield the right of way, one of the most simple and basic driving laws, and Josh died because of it. The rest of the details mean nothing.

At the memorial service July 5, a letter written by his father, Mike, was read to the hundreds of family and friends overflowing the funeral home’s chapel. In this letter, Mike asked everyone to tell Josh’s story in the hopes that it may prevent such a tragedy in someone else’s life.

Everyone, please slow down. Let that phone call go to voicemail. Treat the drivers around you like you would a loved one. Make yourself a more attentive driver. No distraction is worth more than a life.

And please look left just one more time before turning. You might save a life.

This web site is just one of the ways that Josh’s family hopes to bring awareness to the impact that distracted driving can have on everyone’s lives.
